Using the Database

This online database is designed to make information about the Student Work Collection accessible through multiple channels. It also accommodates visitors looking to search beyond the chronological or alphabetical arrangement tradition.

On the home page, visitors will find a number of curated sets highlighting projects based on themes like subject, featured class year, or faculty member, for example. This is a good place to start browsing.

For visitors looking to do more targeted research, the course, project, people and location tabs located at the upper right corner of the homepage serve as primary access points.

To browse the collection through a pedagogical lens, visitors should navigate to the course tab. Here, projects are arranged by the course in which they were produced. Visitors will find faculty documents, such as syllabi, here as well.

To find projects associated with a specific individual, visitors should select the people tab. This tab includes a list of all people associated with this collection – whether they authored projects, served as faculty, documented student work as photographers, or served as an individual whose work was analyzed. To browse by relationship to the collection, filter by role on the left side of the people page.

To browse projects by site, visit the location tab. This map features projects that are sited at a specific geographic location. This view does not include all projects, as not all projects are sited.

To find a complete list of all the student projects the archive holds, select the projects tab. Like the people and location tabs, the project tab includes a set of filters allowing researchers to hone in on particular data points.

Clicking on a project thumbnail will bring up a project detail page. Each detail page includes access to all project items, metadata and student and faculty texts. From here, all metadata is clickable, enabling a researcher to move among academic years, faculty, subjects and other content-based metadata elements.

Clicking on one of the project images in the column at the left of a project detail page will cause it to appear enlarged in the viewer window. Clicking on the larger image will active the pan and zoom feature of the image viewer.

To review author or faculty texts, if they are present within a project detail page, click on the text link below the respective Additional Metadata tab. This will activate the text viewer, which allows for the viewing of multi-page documents.
