The aim of my thesis was to design a series of Cooper Union buildings that create an urban space and place for people at the intersection of Astor Place, Eighth Street, Lafayette Street and The Bowery. The final design proposal is for two new pairs of buildings defined by the repetition of existing historic lines or the reinstitution of previously existing lines. Each pair of buildings defines an urban room between them that is open to the sky and frames a view back to the Cooper Union Foundation Building.
