Abstract
The premise of this particular project was to design a public library branch which would have a minimal impact on the park as it existed at that time. It was to create a building which would not interfere with the view of the existing building terminating the narrow end of the site. A Corbusian vocabulary was adopted and adapted to structure the proposal. Programmatically the Children's library is at the lower level with a sloped outdoor area leading to the playground proper. The Main meeting room is also at this level. The Main library and reading room and the administrative offices are at the upper level which is the main entrance level to the project accessed from the exterior by a narrow bridge overlooking the playground.
