Abstract
A project for a feira (market) in the site of the ruins of Canudos, in proximity to the new and adjacent city of the same name, in the Sertão or hinterlands of the Brazilian Northeast. The proposal was an architectural and landscape infrastructural intervention as a site of exchange: economic, social, and symbolic/ritual. The thesis aimed to explore the role of architecture in mediating the relationship between physical geography as an index of history, and the sedimentations of cultural memory constituted through architecture. Its focus was on the north¬eastern geographical regions of Brazil, initially stretching from Amazonia to the state of Bahia.
